Time traveling on a summer day~PART TWO~'fun undies, 18thc. style'~

Adam had fun taking these shots of me today, and laughingly christened them the "fun with undies" shots! I hope you enjoy them---We had a ball taking them.
Today is a stunner---the New Hampshire air is clearer than anyplace I have ever been, and the sun was shining all day. It was not too hot and not at all humid---The perfect day for our impromptu 18thc. photo shoot!
We have lots more to share with you in this little series. Enjoy parts one and two that I've posted today~

Just for fun, here's a photo of me in 'normal clothes'~

What I am wearing...

...A linen shift, cream silk 'lace clocked' stockings from BURNLEY AND TROWBRIDGE,---(the BEST!), and French embroidered silk garters with a poem on them in French.
I am wearing a hiproll, and over that a heavy white linen underpetticoat. (I would normally put these items over the stays, but wanted you to see the lovely tabs and 18thc. shape.)
My stays are ballet-pink 100% silk damask.  (Katherine Adrian and I joke about what she calls her "lumberjack back"!---I too am wide in the upper back, smaller in waist.)

Here is a hint; DON'T lace your stays extremely tightly at the TOP edge; this will produce a most unattractive horizontal 'wrinkle' across the top front of your gown.)
I have black fan-tongue shoes just like my exclusive pearl cream leather ones!
In my hair I have a lovely snood that was made for me. It was woven of white and silver metallic yarn and embellished with pearls~

I made my own low crown straw hat which I embellished with striped silk from my 18thc. sacque gown, silk rosebuds and petals, and ivory embroidered English netting lace~

Someone on PINTEREST pinned a photo of me in my striped silk 18thc. gown, and this blog onto their page under "Old Fashioned Sexy"! How nice! Thank you to that sweetie pie~

We sell ladies' and gentlemen's period-style clothing, wigs, accessories and more on the SUTLERY PAGE of our website~

Neat photos! As a costumed interpreter myself, all I can say is I sure am glad that I can wear shorts and a tee shirt all day long in the summer. I really don't like being at work(in costume) and having sweat rolling down my back right into my petticoats! Was that TMI? LOL. ~Ann

Tee hee---No Ann, we sure can appreciate that! Sometimes it seems like every reenactment we do is hotter than blue blazes!
Thanks so much for commenting!

As much as I would love to, there's no way my wife would ever allow me to photograph her in her period underpinnings.
Beautiful photos!

Im new to Colonial garments, but a veteran in Victorian corsets. What materials have you used for your stays? I understand silk damask for the "fashion fabric" and reeds. What is the stiffening and backing material and where could I get the reeds? Thanks! -Becky

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for visiting and commenting. I have another set of stays in floral embroidered linen. (You can see them in other posts on this blog). You can buy the supplies to make stays at BURNLEY AND TROWBRIDGE online. You can call them also. Angela is extremely knowledgeable, and she will help you with anything and everything you need to achieve the correct period style!
Kind regards,
Mary

PS TO SUZANNE~
Suzanne,
I would highly recommend that if you would like to purchase ready-made stays, you contact the wonderful April Thomas at her website, FASHIONS REVISITED. I got my linen set from her, and they are wonderful~
